Air India Opens bookings for select domestic flights from 4th May

On 18th April 2020, Saturday, Air India announced that it will be opening the bookings for select domestic flights starting from 4th May and bookings will be open for international flights starting from 1st Jun.

In wake of the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak, Air India has refused to accept the bookings on all the domestic flights for travel till 3rd May 2020 and on all the international flights for travel till 31st May 2020.

As per a notification on the website of Air India on Saturday, "In the wake of the ongoing health concerns due to the Covid-19 outbreak, as of now we have stopped accepting any bookings on all domestic flights for travel till 3rd May 2020, and on all international flights for travel till 31st May 2020." 

The nationwide lockdown has been imposed to control the spread of coronavirus, will be ending on 3rd May 2020. However, currently, all the commercial flights have been suspended, Air India has been currently doing yeoman service in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

Other than rescuing all the Indian citizens who are stranded abroad, Air India has been transporting all the essential agricultural and medical items to the world market.

Under the "KrishiUdan" scheme of the Central Government, the national carrier has identified 10 cargo places across the world, where it will be utilizing its aircraft for the purpose of transporting essential commodities like fruits, vegetables, and medical items.

The national carrier has started its services on several routes including to the UK, Germany, Israel, China, Seychelles, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and the Maldives and several others.

The whole nation has been under the lockdown since 25th March to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease. The first phase of the lockdown has begun from 25th March 2020 to 14th April 2020. On 14th April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a video message addressed the whole nation, announcing that the lockdown has been extended till 3rd May 2020.

During this time, all the domestic and international commercial passenger flights will remain suspended.

On 3rd April 2020, Air India said in a statement that it has stopped taking any bookings for both the domestic and international flights till the end of the month.
