Apart from the rich history and architecture, Jaipur is known across the world for the Jaipur Literature Festival. It is an event held every year in January and offers a peak into intellectual conversations and bridges the gap between writers, poets and artists. The festival begins on the 24th January 2018 and ends on 29th January 2018. Apart from being the bibliophiles paradise for these five days, there is a lot more to see and do in the beautiful city of Jaipur. Jaipur is known as the Pink City for a reason, it has pink walls and buildings in the old city which will take you back to the bygone era. 1. Amber fort and palace: Amber fort is half an hour from Jaipur and it showcases Rajput royalty. With a number of temples, palaces, halls and gardens, the fort is grand and very impressive. It is set on a hilltop overlooking a lake and is straight out of a fairytale. It has elaborate mirror work which adds grandeur to the area. There is a light and sound show in the evening which brings to light the history of Jaipur and the fort looks mesmerizing after the sunset.

 

2. Hawa Mahal: Jaipur is very famous for the Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds. One of the most recognized buildings in Jaipur; the Hawa Mahal has five floors which contain rows of small windows. Legend has it that the Hawa Mahal was built so that the royal ladies could watch Jaipurs main road without being observed. You can get a panoramic view of the building from the top.

 

3. City Palace: Right next to the Hawa Mahal, is the City Palace. It is the residence of the royal family of Jaipur and consists of a huge complex with gardens, temples and courtyards that reflect the best of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. There is detailed workmanship on the doors and windows of the palace. There is a museum inside which displays the armor and clothing of the royal family. A visit to the City Palace will take you back in the royal era.

 

4. Jantar Mantar: The Jantar Mantar is known for the specialized astronomical function. Jantar Mantar means calculating instrument and there are 14 structures in total. These structures measure time, eclipses and track stars.

 

5. Jaigarh Fort: The Jaigarh Fort is near Amber fort and contains the worlds largest cannon on wheels. It has towering gateways and watchtowers and is famous for the cannon which is one of the best preserved structures of medieval India. Jaigarh is a real fortress without any delicate architecture or carvings.

 

6. Nahargarh Fort: Jaipur is known for the rich history and architecture. The Nahargarh Fort is also known as the Tiger fort and is perched on the Aravali Hills. It offers stunning views of the city, which are seen best at the sunset. The fort looks beautiful at night when it is lit up and it also has a couple of cafes which are ideal for a quick bite and beer.

7. Albert Hall Museum: The famous museum is modeled on the Albert Museum in London. It includes a collection of portraits of kings, wooden carvings, paintings, costumes and arts and crafts.
