The Whyte Ice festival is celebrated in Edmonton city (Canada). This ice festival kicks off when the temperature is at its lowest. This is the ten days outdoor ice festival. The local artists of Edmonton compete with the ice carving artists from as far as Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and Malaysia. This winter festival is a showcase of ice sculpture. 16 teams from different corners of the globe participate in the snow sculpture championship. The artists have to carve 20-ton blocks of snow into intricate work of arts. The artists have the restriction to use hand tools only to enhance their creativity. No power tools are allowed for the teams. The teams have to work for countless hours for five days. In totality 96 hours of hard work results in a temporary outdoor art gallery.
