Icehotel is an art symposium in a class of its own. The energy released here when creative people from a wide variety of backgrounds and places meet the ice is almost tangible, -Arne Bergh, partner and major sculptor for the Icehotel.The very first Ice hotel in Sweden and the entire world is located in the village of Jukkasjrvi, which is in northern Sweden, about 17 kilometers (11 mi) from Kiruna. The hotel was founded in the year 1989 and is named as the Icehotel. All though you can visit the place all year round it melts in the summer months and is built again between December and April using snow and ice. During the summer months, it is kept cool with the help of solar panels. The ice blocks used for construction here are taken from Torne river which is situated close to the hotel. The river has a massive length of 520 kilometers and it runs from the age-old mountains in the west down to the coast in the east, where it finally flows into the Bay of Bothnia. Natural ice taken from this river is not easy to work with as even before the ice is harvested it takes several months to maintain the ice field and it is necessary to keep it free from the snow so that the ice can have the best conditions for its growth. The hotel has artists from all over the world that create artwork and decoration from ice. The hotel has bedrooms, luxury suites including a private relaxation chamber and a bathroom along with various art suites, all of which is sculptured by selected artists and is generally handcrafted. The most popular here is the chapel which is a very famous choice for couple who want to get married. Apart from this, you will also find an ice bar where the glasses, bar, and tables are made from ice which is also a hot favorite.According to Petra W Lindh, who has worked in the hotel for more than 20 years it is all about the true and natural beauty if ice.
