The Indian passport has been ranked at the 84th position in the world's most powerful passport index of the year 2020. The Indian passport can allow yu a visa-free entry to as many as 58 destinations all over the world as per a new report.
Henley & Partners has brought out a passport index based on the data recorded from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) where the countries have been ranked according to the number of destinations that a passport holder can access without getting a visa prior to visiting.
Japan has continuously topped the list of the world's most powerful passport as it provides visa-free access to a total of 191 countries worldwide. India's rank in the Index has dropped from the 82nd position in the year 2019 to 84th position this year.
The Indian passport's ranking has dropped two places this year to the 84th position. It has been tagged along with Mauritania and Tajikistan. The Chinese passport has been ranked at the 71st spot which makes it more powerful than the Indian passport. The world's worst passport is the Afghanistan passport. Also, the Pakistani passport is the fourth worst passport in the world as per the Henley Passport Index 2020 report.
The Indian passport holders can visit up to 58 countries in the world visa-free. Some of these destinations include Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Macao, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Iran, and Qatar. However, in some of the countries, a visa on arrival is a must.
The strength of a country’s passport and their respective ranks on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index shows that those nations whose citizens can travel across the borders without any hindrance will be having more vibrant economies.
The strength of a country's passport means that the number of countries the passport holders can travel to visa-free. The people can obtain a visa on arrival, an electronic travel authority, or a visitor’s permit at the time of entering the country they're traveling to.
India ranks below the other BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) that are also at a slightly similar stage of economic development. The UAE’s passport recorded the highest growth going from the 65th spot in the year 2010 to the 18th position in the year 2020.
