Kerala which was devastated by the worst floods of the century in August 2018 is finally revamping to open tourism in the state. Kerala is ready to welcome tourists from October.According to the Kerala Disaster Management Control Room since 29th May, a total of 498 people have died due to the severe floods in the state. This is the maximum number of deaths occurring after 8 August.P Bala Kiran, director, Kerala's Department of Tourism told the media that "Kerala tourism is speedily bouncing back from the damage which has not impacted most of the tourist spots, hotels and resorts in the state."Addressing at the Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF), Bala Kiran said that severe steps are being taken to restore the road links in the state. This is the priority work at hand. He added that the tourists have begun to arrive in the state from 29 August.Emphasizing on the transport system he said that the airports, road and rail networks are operational and soon the fourth airport at Kannur in north Kerala will be opened. Also, the state's Malabar region would get a boost due to Kannur airport.Eravikulam National Park, Munnar, Thekkady and Wayanad, which were impacted due to rains and landslides, are now open for tourists and public.Keeping up to its timeline Kerala Travel Mart 2018 will be organized from 27-30 September and the most awaited and biggest contemporary art event in Asia, Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB), will be held from 12 December 2018 to 19 March 2019, he said. It will be the 4th Edition of this art event.Kerala tourism department is also working on a strong marketing plan for increasing tourism in the state. Kerala Tourism has formulated a 12- Point Action Plan to overcome the loss in tourism due to the recent floods.This action plan is focused on increasing tourism in the upcoming peak season through the marketing strategies. This marketing campaign will be executed in India and in the target market abroad.The most important aspect will be the restoration of the tourist destinations. Kadakampally Surendran, the Minister for Tourism unveiled the action plan at a press conference in the state.Kerala will actively be a part of all domestic and international travel trade fairs and marts. A strong digital campaign will be developed to promote Kerala as safe to travel and stay destination. Brand promotions will be done all across the country and Kerala will be promoted as a state ready to receive tourists.Kerala may have gone through the worst disaster but now it is ready to revamp and we all should come forward to support this beautiful state and its people. Tourism is one of the strongest factors in the economic development of the state and it is essential that the state begins to gain the trust of the tourists again by being one of the best hosts to its travellers. Restoration and rehabilitation is under process and tourism will help the state to develop faster.
