The Ministry of Railways has resumed train services in the Kashmir Valley as of Monday, February 22, 2021, after an 11-month suspension period in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
The Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal, announced that it will provide better passenger mobility and encourage the growth of the tourism sector. Goyal also tweeted that train services have been resumed in Kashmir on the Banihal-Baramulla highway. The train will depart from Ramallah at 9:10 am and from Banihal at 11:25 am.

India Railways has restarted the number of train services in stages. Currently, more than 65 percent of trains are operating in Kashmir and more than 250 train services resumed in January. More trains will be added soon. Meanwhile, only fully booked trains operate in India alongside some suburban train services. Regular train services were canceled in March 2020 when the lockdown was announced in India.
News says that Indian Railways planned to connect Kashmir with all corners of India. Construction work on the arduous 111 km stretch of the Udhampur - Srinagar - Baramulla (USBRL) railway link will be completed in December 2022; It will become the lifeline of Kashmir. Within the framework of this project, there are three divisions, which are the 25 km Udhampur-Katra section, the 118 km long Qazigund-Baramulla section, and the 18 km long Banihal-Qazigund section. The last section is 111 km KT Banihal.
