Lahaul Spiti Circuit is arguably the world's best drive. We went there a few years back and what we saw was beyond words. It is a serene and wow place to visit once in your lifetime. From Shimla, you can start via 2 routes: one goes from Manali (clockwise) and the other goes from Kinnaur (anti-clockwise). I would suggest you start from Kinnaur and visit Chandratal towards the end of the journey. You will need to book a cab there for the entire journey. They are cost-effective and know the best places & routes.
