India planning to introduce Maldives-like Water Villas in the Andaman and Nicobar

The super luxurious villas of the Maldives are soon coming to India. The government of India has taken many steps to ensure the promotion of tourism in the country. Niti Aayog has been planning to introduce the beautiful water and land villas in the lagoons of the Andaman and Nicobar islands and then the Lakshadweep islands.


We are jumping with excitement as we plan our next vacations to the scenic islands. It is like a dream come true. Now we don't have to visit the Maldives if we want to enjoy a fancy and beautiful stay in the water villas. The project that has been proposed by the Niti Aayog will have an expected cost of Rs. 150000 crore. There will be new infrastructure development apart from the villas that will be including the airports, seaplanes, helicopter services, floating jetties and many more for smooth access to the islands. We can't wait to see this dream come into reality.

As per the proposal, the water villas are to be constructed at the Minicoy, the Suheli and the Kadmat islands of the Lakshadweep. It will consist of a total of 125 rooms while about 460 rooms in the land villas are to be constructed at the Aves Island, the Smith Island, the Long Island and the Shaheed Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The project will aim to boost domestic and international tourism in both the Lakshadweep islands and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Indian Government has started the invitation of the bids for as many as six of the major ecotourism projects. These projects will be based on a model of public-private partnership. 

"Many Bids have been invited for the seven major coveted projects, that will be made on a priority basis in a public-private partnership model… The idea behind this development is to make our country a major tourist destination." As per an official of the Niti Aayog.

“The model concession agreement is finalized. We are hoping to kickstart the work on all these projects in the current financial year itself,” according to the official. The Investments that are made in these projects, with the concession periods ranging from 50 to 75 years, are projected to be able to generate returns of about 30-40%.

As per the official, the Thinktank, Niti Aayog has already got all the environmental approvals for all of these projects and it is expected to award these contracts by the end of the year.

The water villas will attract travelers to these magnificent islands in large numbers. Now, the Indians need not go to the Maldives to enjoy a beautiful stay in the water villas. So stop dreaming about visiting the Maldives, when the villas are coming right to your home!
