Corbett Tiger Reserve opened Tuesday (June 29) for year-round tourism. Rahul, director of Corbett, said five ranges of the reserve, including Gargia, Bajrani, Dara-Jhirna, Dhela and pakhron, have opened this afternoon for one-day visits throughout the year.
"Corbett's opening has generated so much excitement among wildlife lovers that about 50 reservations for safari were made on opening day," he said.
"Opening the tourist reserve year-round will help the people whose livelihoods are linked to it," Rahul said.
"Corbett's revenue has been hit hard by the Covid pandemic, and such a move will help offset the impact," he said.
The Minister of Forestry and Environment of Uttarakhand, Harak Singh Rawat, recently announced that the Corbett and Rajaji tiger reserves will be open to tourists throughout the year.
Wildlife experts opposed the move, saying it would not be beneficial for animals living in reserves.
