White House Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci asked if The United States must return to an ever-evolving version of Omicron with a complete ban on international visitors.

Fauci said the latest strain of the COVID-19 virus is already present in 89 countries and in nearly every state in the United States, so blocking visitors from other countries doesn't affect Omicron's spread.

At the moment, I don't think there is any point in trying to keep the virus out of the country," Fauci said in an interview with the National Press Club.

The United States this year banned international visitors from early 2020 until November 8, nearly 20 months before the Biden administration lifted the ban.

However, less than three weeks after the Omicron version was discovered by South African doctors, the White House banned travel to eight South African countries.

Although Fauci's suggested that further sanctions were not unnecessary, he added that the United States could be locked down if Omicron continued to spread. Return to meet international travel restrictions.

"We will get out of this very soon because we have a lot of infections in our own country and we pass it on to people in other countries who have much or more the same infection than South Africa," he said.
