By admin.ngtraveller | Apr 27, 2021

Many things have changed in the world since the pandemic, but one thing remains constant, which is a € 1 house (INR 90) in Italy. For those who dream of Italian dreams, this is the perfect opportunity, as the Italian commune of Castiglione di Sicilia sells its 900 abandoned houses for just INR 90.

Situated in the picturesque city center of Catania in Sicily, Castiglione di Sicilia in the foothills of Mount Etna is what dreams are made of. The municipality is close to several of the stunning beaches of Sicily. And if you have the opportunity to call this place your home, at this price, you should not give up this opportunity.

Mayor Antonino Camarda said that he wants to make the village alive by bringing people back. He said, “We have a huge architectural heritage to rescue, packed with history. Over time, too many people have left, leaving behind a bunch of old, picturesque houses, many even dating back to the Renaissance.”

The governor added that they indexed each property based on maps and cadastral data. Each building will be sold at different prices, depending on its conditions, starting at € 1.

The scheme was launched in March 2021 and is the largest of its kind. To this end, a special working group has been formed. The mayor said: "We are moving in two parallel tracks: reaching out to old owners who are very interested in getting rid of their families' houses and new buyers."
