The Kashmir-Ladakh Zoji-La Pass which is an important link between the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh was opened by the Border Roads Organization (BRO). The pass is located at 11,650 feet. This road is very important in these highland regions of the country and crossing it is an experience of a lifetime for travelers.
Every year the pass closes around November when the temperature has cooled down and then reopens at the end of April of the following year.
Zoji-La Pass remains closed for about 150 days every year, but this time it was a little different. The pass has been open for a longer period of time in 2020 and was also opened prior to the scheduled date in 2021. The Zoji-La Pass was closed for a total of 110 days this time. 10 civilian trucks have already crossed the corridor and headed towards Kargil carrying essential supplies.

It is located about 100 km from Srinagar. The Zoji-La tunnel is currently under construction and started in 2018. The two-lane bi-directional tunnel spans 14.2 km and will reduce the time it takes to reach Ladakh on completion.

In addition to CCTV monitoring, the tunnel will also feature emergency lighting, a ventilation system, and a radio tunnel system. There will also be emergency telephones and firefighting safes about 100 kilometers from Srinagar. The Zoji-La tunnel is currently under construction and started in 2018. The tunnel will reduce the time it takes to reach Ladakh. When completed, the tunnel will contain a two-lane, two-lane single-tube tunnel spanning a distance of 14.2 km.
