Need to know about Shillong's fourth Cherry Blossom Festival 2019

Shillong's fourth Cherry Blossom Festival 2019 in India is coming this month people are excited about this cultural festival. The Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year with the purpose to celebrate the beautiful autumn flowers of the Himalayan Cherry Blossoms. This festival will see many cultural events over the period from 13th-16th November 2019.

Shillong's fourth Cherry Blossom Festival 2019 in India is coming this month people are excited about this cultural festival. The Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year with the purpose to celebrate the beautiful autumn flowers of the Himalayan Cherry Blossoms. This festival will see many cultural events over the period from 13th-16th November 2019.

Conrad Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya will do the inauguration of the festival in the presence of the South Korea Ambassador to India, Shin Bong-Kil.

This is the very first time that both India and South Korea will be partners to celebrate this four-day-long festival.

One of the important events of the festival will be the summit that will take place between the Republic of Korea and the Meghalaya government. The issues that will be discussed include environmental reclamation and waste to wealth. It is expected that several MoUs will be signed during the summit.

The best part is that you will get to witness and enjoy the pink cherry blossom trees that look absolutely alluring and pretty to look at as Meghalaya is well known for its natural beauty. There is nothing to worry about as there will be many entertaining events organized for you. 

Over the course of four days, you will find various activities to do here. Some of these include: music gigs, fashion shows, beauty pageants, golf tournaments at an amateur level, Dog show competition, Korean films and you will also find various stalls that will showcase the cuisines, arts, wine as well as the crafts of the region. You will also find Korean barbeque and K-pop music. 

Several Korean events (K-events) will be organized in the collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centre India. This includes a K-Pop concert, Korean demonstration of Taekwando, Korean cuisine as well as art stalls that will be exhibiting the opportunities on education in South Korea. You can enjoy the beautiful night sky along with fine dining at the Ward's Lake where the festival will start.

The festival will also have events like rock concerts, traditional folk music, unplugged western music, and dance in pin bicycles by the natives of North East India. You will also find bicycle rallies, storytelling sessions. For all the photography lovers, a cherry blossom photography competition will be hosted. Amazing prizes will be given to the winners.

The four-day event helps to generate huge employment as well as revenues in many cities around the world.

ISBD (International Standard Bibliographic Description) scientist Albert Chiang had said in a statement, “The basic plan is to showcase Meghalaya's best. The festival acts as a platform for bringing in the high-level delegations to work out and plan good investment opportunities, intellectual as well as cultural exchanges,” He also added, “In general, the Cherry Blossom Festival performs the role of a catalyst for bringing socio-economic partnerships for the development of the State."

The festival is going to be held at five different venues in Shillong. These are

- Polo 5th Ground

- State Convention Centre

- Golf Course

- JN Stadium

- Indoor Stadium Polo

To reach there, Shillong only has one airport that is located in Umroi, 30 km away. Also, there is one in Guwahati that is the busiest airport among the seven sister states but is connected well. It will take approximately 3 hours from Guwahati to Shillong.
