Kasol is a popular tourist destination for all the trekkers and backpackers who come here to enjoy the natural beauty. It is located between Manikaran and Bhuntar. Various treks start from Kasol including the treks to Kheerganga, Yanker Pass, Sar Pass, and Pin Parbati Pass. It is a paradise for all the mountain lovers who seek peace and tranquillity in the woods.
The only drawback is that to reach Kasol, one will have to go through an uncomfortable route that is about 14 hours long and sometimes there is a lot of traffic as well. In consideration of this problem, the government of Himachal Pradesh has plans to construct an airport near Mandi. This will help in making the travel to Parvati and the Tirthan valley easier and faster.
The airport will be constructed as a joint venture between the Government of Himachal Pradesh and the Airport Authority of India (AAI). The process of acquisition of the land for the airport will soon begin. The project received approval from the Central Government. With the coming of the airport, the travel time will reduce and hence the tourists will have more time to explore all the beautiful places in the state. Hence, increasing tourism.
The connectivity has also been taken care of by the Himachal Pradesh Government as it has made the provisions for the landing of the A320 aircraft in Gaggal and the landing of the ATR74 aircraft at the airports in Shimla and Bhuntar.
These moves will help to make sure that the state is better connected to the rest of the country. The state government is continuously working to expand the runways in the airports of Himachal Pradesh.
It has been suggested by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Housing, and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri that an Airport of international standards should be developed at the Balh area in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh.
Not only tourism activities increase, but it will be important because of the defense requirements as Himachal Pradesh is close to China and shares the boundary with it. Currently, without a world-class International Airport, the state is not able to utilize the full potential when it comes to tourism.
The Balh Area has been finalized for the airport and about 700 acres of land will be used to develop the airport in the Ner Chowk Area.
The CM also added that the air ambulance services should be strengthened in the area. It is vital especially in this state as the geographical conditions are rough.
