Canada Allows Indians to Travel Via 'Third Country' Route.

In its latest global travel advice, the Canadian government has continued to suspend direct flights between India and Canada until July 21. The extension comes in light of the deadly coronavirus pandemic. Indian travelers who have to travel to Canada during this period must book a flight via an 'indirect route'. According to the revised Official Travel Notice, Canada will not accept the Indian Molecular COVID-19 Test Report. Therefore, travelers should be screened for coronavirus in a "third country" before continuing their journey to Canada. Canada Allows Indians to Travel

According to the alert, passengers who have previously tested positive for COVID-19 traveling from India to Canada must provide proof of a coronavirus test taken 14 to 90 days before their departure. "This proof must be obtained in a third country before Indian travelers can continue their journey to Canada. You may need to request entry and stay in a third country for at least 14 days," the notice reads. Now Canada Allows Indians to Travel 

These updated COVID-19 regulations imposed by the Canadian authorities have added hurdles to pre-existing problems for Indian travelers seeking to travel to the country for professional, educational, occupational or other reasons. This will hinder your time frame and will also increase your expenses.

However, Canada is not the first country to impose travel restrictions on travelers from India. There are several countries that have imposed restrictions on the entry or transit of passengers from India especially those who have previously tested positive for COVID-19. If a passenger tests positive during transit, they can be isolated or returned to the point of departure.

One downside of the "third country" route is that COVID-19 testing is not available at all international airports in these countries. Therefore, travelers may have to look for testing facilities elsewhere after arriving in a new country. Apart from these guidelines, Canada has advised its citizens to "avoid non-essential travel" to the northeastern part of India.
