It is the grand day that involves around 6 barges along a 3 1/2-mile area of water, and uses 30,000 pyrotechnic effects, for as long as 12 minutes. Around 1 million people turn up to attend this event. The boats are decorated and illuminated that glide along the waterfront for the late-night Harbor of Light Parade, straddling a 9-mile route. Hundreds of thousands of people gather at the Times Square on Dec 31 to enjoy a party like none other. No food and drinks are permitted, so you need to carry your own. The restaurants are open but they are flooded with people and it may take hours for you to place an order. As the evening sets in famous New Year's Eve Ball is hoisted to the apex of One Times Square's 77-foot flagpole, and continues a 60-seconds drop just before the stroke of midnight.
